Athleta is excited to partner with Girls on the Run, an organization that mirrors our belief in the strength and ability of women and girls so closely. Courage, self-confidence, and athleticism are core to who the Athleta woman is-we’re thrilled that Girls on the Run is helping establish these traits in girls so early on.
Athleta was founded in 1998 with the mission of providing women athletes with apparel for different sports and fitness activities. Since then, they have become one of the premier brands in the rapidly growing women’s sports and active apparel markets. Athleta offers high quality, stylish, and functional apparel, footwear and accessories for women across a wide variety of sports and fitness activities, including a high component of crossover apparel and casual wear. Athleta sells its products through catalogs, retail locations and its website, www.athleta.com. Athleta is headquartered in Petaluma, CA, and has nearly 300 employees, many of which have been involved with Girls on the Run for years.
It’s a pleasure to be a woman. You have so many different sides of yourself to express and enjoy. That’s why Goody® offers an inspiring range of hair accessories and styling tools to help you create any look you want with ease.
When Goody learned of the Girls on the Run and SoleMates programs in 2005, they were excited about the perfect match. “We share a similar mission with Girls on the Run to give girls and women tools that make them feel great about who they already are, and allow them to confidently express themselves in any setting. That’s what makes our partnership such a perfect fit,” said Jana Bartlett, Marketing Manager at Goody. “Goody is proud to be a national sponsor of Girls on the Run.”
At select Girls on the Run 5k events each year, Goody sets up Happy Hair Stations, where the girls can decorate their hair in preparation for the races. They often end up with some pretty creative and colorful hair and designs.
“What’s amazing is watching the girls cross the finish line in their first 5k and seeing the sense of accomplishment that they have,” said Newell Rubbermaid’s Jessica Miller, who is a member of Girls on the Run of Atlanta’s Board of Directors and a SoleMates runner. “This program is a great way to introduce girls to a healthy lifestyle at an early age.” Miller, who is vice president of marketing and sales - Global Technology Brands, worked for Goody when the partnership was formed.
Goody was featured in Fitness Magazine’s 2008 Fit 50 list, which ranks companies, people and programs that are involved in or promote aspects of being healthy. The magazine wrote: “Sure we love its StayPut hair accessories, but Goody supports more than ponytails. For the third year, the company is sponsoring Girls on the Run.”
Secret has been a national sponsor of Girls on the Run since 2008. Our partnership with Secret deodorant enables Girls on the Run International to reach more girls, improve our program offerings, and encourage girls everywhere to embrace their authentic selves.
In 2009, Secret challenged girls to write about how Girls on the Run “helped them to be more FEARLESS”. Ten winners were selected from an outstanding pool of submissions, and the winning essays are available for viewing on our web site. Lena, a 5th grade Secret essay winner, wrote: “I am much more brave now. I don’t think I could have done it without Girls on the Run. I am proud to say I AM fearless!”
Secret is a brand of Procter & Gamble, which currently serves consumers in more than 180 countries. From beauty and health to home and beyond, P&G’s brands make every day just a little better for billions of consumers around the world.
Girls on the Run International would like to thank Horizon Fitness, presenting sponsor of Girls on the Run SoleMates (link to SoleMates page), for their support of the Adult Charity Running Program. Horizon’s support enables Girls on the Run SoleMates to recognize and award participants, volunteers and Girls on the Run councils for their hard work on behalf of the program.
In addition to Horizon’s support through their sponsorship, they have also organized group training runs for participants wishing to take part in the New Balance Girls on the Run 5K in Dane County, Wisconsin.
Each year, Horizon recognizes the Girls on the Run Coach of the Year with an award at the annual Girls on the Run Summit. Girls nominate their coaches through the submission of short essays, terrific artwork, and even picture collages. We would like to thank Horizon for their support of our amazing volunteer coaches!

Girls on the Run SoleMates is proud to announce our partnership with Garmin International. Garmin offers innovative products which span a number of interests, including fitness, automotive, aviation, marine, outdoor recreation and wireless applications. Based in Olathe, Kansas, Garmin has been a supporter of the local Girls on the Run council for several years, and became a proud National Sponsor of Girls on the Run SoleMates in 2010. Our partnership provides financial and in-kind support, national marketing and awareness, and the opportunity to partner with an organization committed to community investment.
While the Garmin company has provided local support through sponsorship and the donation of product, Garmin employees have also donated considerable time, treasure and talent to the Girls on the Run of Johnson County council as volunteer coaches, running buddies and SoleMates participants. Rebecca Sommers, Senior Copyright Editor at Garmin, recently wrote about her SoleMates experience: “I can’t think of a better way to use my passion to help others than by fundraising for Girls on the Run through SoleMates. I’ve had the opportunity to experience Girls on the Run from several different roles: coach, volunteer, mother of a participant, board member and fundraiser. All of those roles bring their own set of rewards, but none quite equal the payoff of seeing the Girls on the Run principles lived out by girls in the program.”
At Garmin, they walk the walk and talk the talk. The company website states, “We don’t just design and sell products, we embrace the lifestyles. From aviation to marine, automotive to fitness, wireless solutions to outdoor recreation, Garmin employees are in the air, on the water, in the woods, behind the wheel and on the run. And we’re always thinking of ways to adapt and improve. At Garmin, you never know how the next great idea will be born. But you know it’s coming soon.” We couldn’t say it any better.
