Girls on the Run Fall 2014 Registration System

This season, Girls on the Run is implementing a new registration process. Our goal with the new system is to provide every family with an equal chance to register and for every girl to have equal access to the Girls on the Run program. We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential. We believe the new system honors our core values and is an equitable and inclusive way to attain this goal.

In the past, Girls on the Run teams in the Capital Area were selected on a first-come, first served basis. While we have always been able to accommodate almost all girls, this approach disadvantaged girls who did not receive registration information prior to the end of the summer semester including girls moving to a new school. In addition, some of our families do not have internet access and need more time to register their girls. Considered a best practice, the new registration system is widely used by 75% of Girls on the Run Councils nationwide.

We understand and anticipate some issues occurring during this transition. We are very interested in any feedback from you, our parents and coaches. We welcome your insight and experience with the new registration system. As always, we will do our best to accommodate every girl who registers for the fall 2014 program, including finding additional coaches to support a larger team where necessary. Our intention is to implement the fairest and most equitable system to enable us to serve every girl.

Feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns.

PROGRAM INFO During the 10-12 week season, held twice a week for 90 minutes after school, girls build self-esteem, learn healthy habits, and practice making positive decisions. Our unique curriculum, led by trained and certified coaches, integrates running games and workouts with lessons that inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. The season culminates with a community service project and the Capital Area Girls on the Run 5K. The purpose of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment, give girls tools to conquer life’s challenges, and inspire them with an appreciation of health and fitness.
